Lorena Patrício is a young conservationist and aspiring ornithologist from Botucatu - SP, Brasil, starting her second year at Cornell University (NY, USA) with a Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences.

Patrício's passion for ornithology emerged in 2012 when she was 10 years old and she started to photograph and study birds. She is the author of a local birds field guide featuring the species found in her community in Brasil, where she has been working for years on environmental activities and research in collaboration with her neighbors. In 2021, she was awarded a National Geographic Young Explorer, and received a project award to expand her work in Brasil to address youth in different schools and to teach children in her community about wildlife photography and recording. Patrício is really inspired to help create more opportunities for young nature enthusiasts in Latin America, therefore in 2019 and 2020, she organized the first camp for young birders in Brazil in partnership with the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and she is is currently a youth council member at Reserva: The Youth Land Trust, where she works with international students to help raise funds for the protection of threatened areas in South America.
