Rahayu Oktaviani is a primate conservationist who has extensively studied Javan gibbons' behavior (Hylobates moloch) in Gunung Halimun Salak National Park on Java Island, Indonesia. She received a bachelor's in forest resources conservation from IPB University, Indonesia, and earned her master's in ecology science at Ewha Womans University, South Korea. Oktaviani is the co-vice chair of the  International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Primate Specialist Group Section on Small Apes (SSA), collaboratively working with global gibbon experts taking necessary and tangible steps toward gibbon conservation.
