Título:

FIRST RECORD OF THE BAT MOLOSSUS RUFUS (E. GEOFFROY, 1805) IN THE IPANEMA NATIONAL FOREST - IPERO, SAO PAULO, BRAZIL

Resumo:

In Brazil the specie of bat Molossus rufus (É. Geoffroy, 1805) has already been registered in the Federal District and in 20 of the 26 states. In the state of São Paulo, the species was found in 8 cities: São Sebastião, Botucatu, Guapiaçu, São José do Rio Preto, Nova Aliança, Fernandópolis, Araçatuba and Valparaíso. In the present study we show the unpublished register in the Ipanema Nacional Forest, city of Iperó, metropolitan region of Sorocaba/SP. The Molossus rufus was captured using mist nets near Hedberg Dam and Ipanema River at coordinates 23°25'31.56 "S and 47°35'47.33 "W. The bat is an adult male with 32g body mass, ears joined at the Head midline, forearm measuring 52 mm, tail measuring 39 mm, head-body measuring 85 mm, total length of the skull 22.7 mm and dark brown coloration. The lack of registration in the region may be related to the habit of the species, because they present higher and faster flights, which makes difficult to capture in mist nets, besides the low number of studies of chiroptera in the region.
